What is actually orthopedics?

Orthopedics is the medical specialty that deals with ailments and diseases in the musculoskeletal system of the body. In 2005, orthopedics and trauma surgery were combined as subareas of surgery to form an independent focus. Orthopedics and trauma surgery are closely intertwined in practice, which is why physicians with expertise in this field are called “specialists in orthopedics and trauma surgery.”

Die Beschwerde- und Krankheitsbilder der Orthopädie sind komplex und vielfältig. Häufig ist nicht nur ein Knochen oder ein Gelenk betroffen, sondern ein Einfluss von anderen Erkrankungen des Körpers vorhanden. Dies ist beispielsweise in der Rheumatologie oder der Tumorchirurgie der Fall. Entsprechend wichtig ist eine umfassende Fachkenntnis des Orthopäden und die interdisziplinäre Zusammenarbeit mit Ärzten aus anderen medizinischen Fachbereichen nach Bedarf. We can often avoid invasive treatments such as surgery or the use of prostheses by setting the right course for your treatment early on or delaying the use of prostheses with innovative therapies. The complaints and clinical pictures of orthopedics are complex and varied. Often not only one bone or joint is affected, but there is an influence of other diseases of the body. This is the case, for example, in rheumatology or tumor surgery.
